Que Sera, Serra (2024 - ongoing)
One of the most significant periods of my young life was in the 1970s when I was deeply involved with a renowned New York sculptor: Richard Serra. Our relationship was intense and passionate, and it profoundly influenced both my personal life and my artistic journey. Que Sera, Serra deals with the materiality of metal in direct relation to memories of flesh.
As I reflect on that time, I find myself drawn to interpret those experiences through my current work: the emotional intensity, the dynamics of power and vulnerability, and the raw tactile nature of our connection. Since his recent death, I have been shooting close-ups of sculptural surfaces of his work: up-close images of slabs of steel and other metals are juxtaposed and integrated with collected images from my personal vocabulary of the body and nature.
