The name of this exhibition is an abbreviated combination of Jane Bennet’s Vibrant Matter: A Political Ecology of Things and Gerald Edelman’s Bright Air Brilliant Fire: On the Matter of the Mind. It is a poetic homage to these thinkers and a reflection of how our physical interaction with materials shapes the visual language that we create and its meaning.

The exhibition is a broad representation of artists using materials in a variety of expressive forms: a reflection of the vibrant matter from which we ourselves are made, and with which we create our art.

The artists in the exhibition are: Tim Hawkinson, Alison Piller, Matthew Brandt, Paul Paiement, Olivia Sears, Cheyann Washington, Aline Mare, Gary Brewer, Ernie Lee.
